168: Your House, Your Rules: Take Control of Your Live Events and Webinars
Sep 24, 2024Going into this episode, you might want to go back and (re)listen to episode 20 of The Professional Creative as well all about learning to love going live because this episode is definitely going to pair well with that one!
Join me as I revisit the topic of going live, whether it’s on Instagram Stories, Facebook Live, Zoom workshops, or webinars. For many of us, the idea of going live can feel overwhelming, and trust me, I get it. Even after years of experience, I still feel a bit nervous, especially when it comes to public-facing sessions where you never know who might join!
I share my personal journey of becoming more comfortable with going live and offer practical tips on how to safeguard your presentations. From Zoom settings to co-hosting strategies, I walk you through the steps that I take to ensure smooth, stress-free live sessions.
Plus, I share a couple of funny mishaps that happened along the way. Tune in for an encouraging conversation about embracing live sessions, feeling in control, and knowing you’ve got backup plans in place, and, as always, remember that there's room for you!
Inviting someone into a webinar, meeting or workshop, I view it the same way as inviting someone into my home. And in my home, it’s my house and therefore my rules.
Discussed in this episode:
- The differences between Zoom meetings and webinar formats and their specific uses
- Practical tips for managing Zoom settings, including disabling participant unmute
- Why it's important to have a co-host for administrative control and managing technical issues
- Safeguards for maintaining control during live presentations, such as turning off participants' video or audio
- How to shift your mindset to feel more comfortable when going live by viewing it as "your house, your rules"

Review of the week:
BONNIE IS THE BEST!
I love hearing what Bonnie has to say, especially in her podcasts! Even though I’m a veteran in the design industry I learn so many new things from her. And she is so encouraging. When I feel discouraged, I listen to one of her podcasts and instantly feel energized and hopeful. She is so easy to listen to. I took her Immersion class last year and got tons out of it. In all the things she takes on, she does it with thoughtfulness, intention, and excellence. Go Bonnie!
